There are free WiFi hotspots appearing throughout cities. Local coffee shops have them, shopping malls have them and so do many city hospitals. With today’s mobile community, hotspots are a necessity.

The question is how to find them? Mobile devices easily detect wireless networks but if you’re looking to garner some attention and don’t mind looking like the local madman, you can use the WiFi Network Dowsing Rod.
The Y-shaped gadget works along the same premise as the divining rod that was used to find water. It’s unique, that’s for sure, but we can’t see this product having a large market if it ever was to be mass produced.

iPhone email usage doubles other smartphones in UK

A new report from market research firm comScore shows that iPhone users in the United Kingdom accessed mobile media more than users of other smartphones. Overall, 93 percent of iPhone users accessed media in January 2009.

When Mobile World Congress happened last month everyone who was there was keeping an eye out for all of the Google Android phones that were predicted to be announced. Most people were disappointed to find that there weren’t a whole lot of announcements after all. However, there was one key announcement from HTC about a brand-new Android-based phone that was set to follow shortly on the heels of their first phone, the G1. Originally designed under the name HTC Sapphire, the HTC Magic phone offers many of the same cool features of the G1 with some changes in design and a few other updates. The phone is about to hit the market in Europe and is catching some attention from those who believe that this is a step forward in the right direction for those Google Android phones we’re all waiting to see.

Manufacturers warned as BT sets up Wifi hotspots

Manufacturing businesses that get their broadband from BT are being warned to check if their building has been turned into an Internet wifi hot spot, without their permission. Specialist manufacturing outsourced IT company Ulysses IT says it has found out that the telecoms giant has recently upgraded 20,000 of its business broadband customers around the UK – and that the upgrade turns the business’s Internet hub into a BT Openzone wifi hotspot.
