About the Apple iPad
We’re learning more about the Apple iPad since its announcement last week, so if you’re still on the fence as to what to make of the media device, here are some basics to help break it down.
We know it looks cool, it can surf the web and display books and movies, but that doesn’t mean you should buy the first iPad available.
Pricing starts at $499 for the model coming out in March 2010. It has 16GB of memory, letting you store plenty of video, songs and games. You can double the memory (32GB) for $100 more and quadruple it (64GB) for $200 more. If you like apps, games, music, and lots of video, aim for the 32GB model.

Netgear partners with Ericsson for a 3G-receiving, WiFi-emanating router
Had enough of dealing with oligopolistic wired broadband suppliers? Well, with Netgear’s brand spanking new MBRN3300E you can just ride off into the 3G sunset and say goodbye to those pesky wires. Like the majority of wireless routers today, it comes with 802.11n WiFi and a built-in firewall, but what sets it apart is the integrated 3G modem provided by Ericsson. With it, you can suckle down broadband straight from the ether and transport it throughout your home, no matter where you live. Netgear is announcing it with immediate availability, and there will be optional car charger and battery pack accessories to maximize the mobility of the unit. Okay, it’ll never be as small and portable as a MiFi router, but it’s always good to have options, right?

AT&T Introduces GPS-Enabled USB Device
Just leave it to the americans to do it.
AT&T has introduced a GPS-enabled USB device, the USBConnect Velocity from Option. The Velocity is the first GPS-enabled LaptopConnect device from AT&T, opening the door to location-based applications, AT&T said.

Option offers a free software application, the Option GPS Control Panel, that leverages location-enabled sites such as Yahoo! Maps and Bing for directions and local points of interest. Option GPS Control Panel is available for download on the Option support web page. Additionally, through TeleNav Track LITE and Xora GPS Locator from AT&T, enterprise customers can add tracking and location awareness, improving response time by locating the closest worker to a service call, AT&T said.
The device features an integrated micro SD-card slot, making it a portable storage device that allows users to carry the data and files they need.
This may also have a viable market here in the UK, but it’s gonna take a while until we’ll get to play with one in our trips.

Sky High WiFi
Airlines have made it easy for travelers to do just about everything on line except reserve seats for Red Sox games, and now American has added a new twist for flyers with laptop computers.
AA’s Wi-Fi widget sits on a PC’s desktop, and is designed to inform passengers which flights are equipped with wireless networking services. Plug in a flight number or a departing airport, and the item or list comes up. The tracker looks ahead by 24 hours.
While the widget is free to grab off of a Web site, the in-flight hookup isn’t. Internet connectivity via Aircell’s Gogo service starts at $5.95 per session and goes up—so to speak—depending on the length of the flight. The airline says that at American, it’s now available on all Boeing 767-200 aircraft, select MD80’s and is coming to the fleet of 737s.
